George Clooney raises $ 58 million for Haiti.



The telethon driven by actor George Clooney, who participated in last Friday more than a hundred renowned artists from the film industry and music so far raised 58 million dollars, the organization announced.

Alicia Keys opened the telethon with a rendition of "Prelude to a Kiss", followed by live tracks from Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Shakira, John Legend, Mary J. Blige, Taylor Swift, Christina Aguilera, Sting, Beyoncé and Chris Martin on piano, Sheryl Crow, Madonna, Justin Timberlake and, among others, a group formed by Jay-Z, Rihanna, Bono and The Edge.

During the gala audience went to the famous as Halle Berry, Leonardo DiCaprio, the Haitian Wyclef Jean, Samuel L. Jackson, Nicole Kidman, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and Bill Clinton.

Brad Pitt, who along with Angelina Jolie donated one million dollars to the cause, was one of the players who were on the other end of the line to take note of the contributions of the spectators.

That amount was also sent by Clooney and DiCaprio himself.

Along with Pitt, Clooney and DiCaprio were artists such as Tom Hanks, Robert Pattinson, Penelope Cruz, Will Smith, Meryl Streep, Ben Stiller, Denzel Washington, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro ... and so more than one hundred prominent names of the cultural landscape.

"Hope for Haiti" continues to accept donations through the website www.hopeforhaitinow.org, phone 877-99-HAITI and text messages to 50555 (both services from the U.S.).

The devastating earthquake that suffered 12 January Haiti, the poorest country of America, killing at least 120,000 dead, 1,500,000 homeless and 3,000,000 homeless.
